Gameloft's Asphalt 5 Introduced at Consumer Electronics Show

Gameloft is making some of its mobile games directly available to users of Panasonic's (News - Alert) Viera high definition televisions.




The first game to be accessible through the partnership with Panasonic – Asphalt 5 – was introduced this week at the Consumer Electronic Show now underway in Las Vegas, according to a Gameloft statement carried by TMCnet.

Other mobile games include: N.O.V.A., Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance and UNO, which will also be accessible on the Viera HDTVs, according to a report from CVG.com. The new games feature 3D graphics.

“Our partnership with Panasonic exemplifies how two forward thinking companies can meld the future of video-gaming with the future of connected television,” Michel Guillemot, chairman and president of Gameloft, said in a statement carried by TMCnet. “Consumers can now enjoy the best gaming experience directly on their Panasonic Viera HDTV sets."

The games have online, multiplayer features so the experience of playing the games becomes a more social event, the company said.

"Together, Gameloft and Panasonic are enabling consumers to access the best games and create the ultimate experience in connected gaming entertainment specifically made for and enabled by consumers' television sets," added Panasonic Corporation of North America Vice President, Merwan Mereby.

Gameloft develops and publishes video games for mobile phones and consoles. It makes games for mobile handsets featuring Java, Brew or Symbian technology, the company said. Gameloft’s games can also be played on WiiWare and DS, Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade, Apple’s (News - Alert) iPod, iTouch and iPhones, and PCs, according to the company’s website.

Gameloft features games like Block Breaker Deluxe, Asphalt: Urban GT and New York Nights. In addition, Gameloft has a distribution network that reaches over 80 countries.

In other recent company news, Gameloft announced it is supporting the new Windows Phone (News - Alert) 7 smartphones, with five of its games: UNO, Assassin’s Creed, Earthworm Jim, Brain Challenge and The Oregon Trail.
