It's Going to Be an iHoliday

By Jaclyn Allard, TMCnet Copy Editor

After recently announcing its release of Apple (News - Alert) iPhones and iPads in 2,300 Walmart Stores, Walmart Stores, Inc., announced intention to offer Apple products in its warehouse unit, Sam’s Club. Walmart believes this to be a crucial move, what with Sam’s sales up 3.4 percent in the second quarter and 5 million iPad’s sold before the end of the third quarter. With the holiday season around the corner the combination of Sam’s Club and Apple products is sure to bring Walmart and Apple a nice holiday bonus.

Apple’s iPad has also found a home on Amazon.com and in Target and Best Buy (News - Alert) Stores. These smart retailers are sure to find their holiday season busy and abundant in cash return.

Amazon didn’t make much fanfare over its introduction of the iPad, probably because the product partially competes with its own Kindle e-book reader, but Amazon wish lists are sure to be filled with Apple iPad dreams.  Target (News - Alert) will be carrying all six iPad models: the 16-, 32- and 64-gigabyte versions of both the WiFi (News - Alert) and WiFi + 3G models. The company will not be offering them for sale on its website, as they are being carried only in on-site locations. The device has been a boon to sales for Best Buy (whose wireless device sales are not only turning profits, but better-than-expected profits), and is expected to be similarly beneficial to Target.

It appears Holiday wish lists won’t be the only thing filled with Apple products, but perhaps stockings and gift packages too. With more retailers carrying the hot item, and some providing a discounted price, Apple iPhones and iPads are more likely to find their way into the shopping cart and home to be wrapped.
