By Meenakshi Shanks, TMCnet Contributing Editor

iPhone, the revolutionary mobile phone from Apple (News - Alert) Inc. will be now available with a price reduced by $200, the company announced. The company also discontinued the low-end model and revamped its iPod media player by releasing a novel model called iPod Touch.

The sudden move is a promotional activity initiated by the company towards attracting the crowd during the shopping season.

The new iPod Touch has the same widescreen display and touch-screen controls as the
iPhone (News - Alert) and comes with a feature that allows users to wirelessly download songs directly as well as for storing photos, music, videos and other digital data. The iPod Touch is thinner than the iPhone, and comes with the Safari Web browser which offers the users to quick access to Google (News - Alert), Yahoo and YouTube.

Apple also introduced new models of the iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano and iPod Classic.

The company also announced a partnership with Starbucks allowing users to download songs playing in any Starbucks shop or get a list of the 10 most recent songs played starting this October.

Customers can now buy the 8-gigabyte iPhone for $399 which is one-third cheaper than the price at the time of its launch. The 4-gigabyte iPhone, which sold for $499, will be discontinued. And the new revamped model, the iPod Touch will sell for $299 for the 8-gigabyte model and $399 for the 16-gigabyte one.

The new Nano will be available in stores starting this weekend and is priced at $149 for a 4-gigabyte version, and for $199 for an 8-gigabyte version.

Apple also announced that it would sell ring tones for its iPhone for 99 cents and customers would be charged $1.98 for both the song and the ring tone.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs (News - Alert) said “the company is on its way to selling 1 million iPhones in the United States by the end of September”.
