Business Response Inc. has established a marketing
intelligence division, which will provide clients with such services as customer

employ eight people.
Ensing, Inc. has opened its second building on
Highway 41 south of Dunnellon, Florida. This expansion brings Ensing from one
5,000-square-foot facility to a complex of over 11,000-square-feet. Ensing buys, sells and
services Nortel MCS telecommu-nications products exclusively.
The International Data Response Corporation (IDRC)
has announced the opening of four new call centers. Its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania center
will employ more than 475 at full capacity. The Buffalo, New York center will employ more
than 360 at capacity. In Duluth, Minnesota, IDRC opened a 180 workstation facility, which
is expected to create more than 450 jobs. The last center, in Reno, Nevada, will create as
many as 475 jobs to fill its 192 workstations. IDRC was formed in 1996 as the parent
company of the operating companies ProMark One Marketing Services, Inc., S&P Data,
IntelliSell Corporation and Telnet Systems. IDRC has also announced the cementing of a
six-year relationship with Touch 1 Communications, Inc. with a $300 mil- lion long-term
telemarketing services agreement. Finally, IDRC has announced the appointment of Jeffrey
E. Stiefler as Chairman and CEO. Prior to joining IDRC, Mr. Stiefler was president of
American Express Company and a member of its Board of Directors.
SPS Payment Systems, Inc. has announced it has
leased a former retail space in Asheville, North Carolina, and plans to open a new call
center facility expected to employ an estimated 500 people when fully operational.
Telemarketing Concepts has opened two new call centers in New Bern and Whiteville, North
Carolina, respectively. Along with its center in Jacksonville, Telemarketing Concepts will
employ more than 800 people in North Carolina.
Transcom has opened a new call center that
occupies 11,000-square-feet and employs approximately 200 people to staff its 100
workstations in Lafayette, Indiana.
West TeleServices Corporation has announced it
will open a 12,540- square-foot center in Odessa, Texas, creating approximately 270 jobs.
EIS International, Inc. has announced it has
received two patents for technology relating to its Centenium call-pacing algorithm
and SmartAgent Manager call-blending technology. EIS has also announced it has
developed and received certification from Aspect Telecommunications for a single-switch
software solution for inbound and outbound call center applications. The EIS Centenium 2.5
and the Aspect CallCenter ACD switching technology deliver this functionality in an
integrated package. Additionally, EIS has announced it is providing an on-site Collections
Effectiveness Training Program. The personalized program teaches agents and supervisors

TCIM Services, Inc. has announced it has been

Versatility Inc. has announced it has endorsed
Microsofts TAPI 2.1 specification and that its telephony product suite is now TAPI
2.1 com-pliant.
Ericsson and Omnipoint Communication Services,
Inc. have announced an agreement in which Ericsson will supply GSM equipment for
Omnipoints Boston and Miami markets. The agreement includes mobile switching
centers, base station controllers and radio base station equipment, as well as
implementation and support services.
META Group has announced that META Metrix will
collaborate with Oxford Business Research to pro-vide customized call center bench-marking
and analysis to companies wanting to assess and improve call center performance.
ICT Group, Inc. has announced a partnership with
Aspect Telecommunications Consulting and Systems Integration business unit to
provide clients with enhanced call center services and solutions.
American Business Information, Inc. and Zip2
Corporation have announced that Zip2 will license ABIs database of 16 million U.S.
business listings. Zip2 networks with over 65 newspaper Web sites and will provide local
listings of business directories as well as a link to ABIs Web site.
The Bentley Group, Inc. and Utopia Technology
Partners, Inc. partnership integrates Bentleys sup-port services and consulting
experience with Utopias help desk product suite to offer customers a complete IS
management solution for internal help desk support.
Sybase, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Company have
announced they are partnering to provide service representatives with a comprehensive view
of customer information in call center and customer service applications. The agreement
will integrate Sybases EnterpriseConnect data-access middleware and HPs
customer con-tact management middleware.
West TeleServices Corporation has formed an
alliance with Twenty First Century Solutions Group. The alliance provides turnkey inbound,
outbound, interactive and ancillary services to gas and electric utilities.
Interactive Response Technologies, Inc. has
announced it has broadened its strategic alliance with Rockwell Switching Systems Division
to create the call center of the future. The call center showcase will be utilized by
Rockwell to test and verify the latest developments in call center products and will also
host customer tours to demonstrate new technology.
Tandenberg Inc. and networkMCI Conferencing are
teaming up to deploy videoconferencing services and equipment. Tandenberg plans to market
its full line of compact, rollabout and vertical market systems through networkMCIs

Tempus Software, Inc. and Syntellect Inc. have
teamed to offer Encompass RESPONSE, a patient scheduling system that automatically

SCO has announced that IBM has expanded its
relationship with SCO to embrace the SCO UnixWare operating system as the primary

Harte-Hanks Communications, Inc. has signed an
agreement to acquire the ABC Shoppers Group, a publisher of free circulation advertising

operations to E.W. Scripps Company.
Mitel Corporation and Gandalf Technologies Inc.
have announced that Mitel will acquire the assets of Gandalfs technology business,
in particular the remote access business.
ACI Telecentrics, Inc. has acquired BRITCOM, a
provider of telemarketing services primarily to the insurance industry.
Acxiom Corporation and American Business
Information, Inc. (ABI) have announced an agreement in which ABI will acquire Pro CD,
Inc., an Acxiom subsidiary which special-zes in the sale of reference products on CD-ROM.
Rockwell Switching Systems Division has announced
it has acquired the worldwide rights and title for software developed for its call center
workflow application development toolkit, DiverCTI. These rights were purchased from
software developer Interactive Response Technologies.
Lucent Technologies has acquired Octel
Communications, a provider of voice, fax and electronic messaging technologies.
MATRIXX Marketing Inc. has announced that Link
Marketing has acquired MATRIXXs fulfillment operations.
Alpha Technologies has expanded its operations
into the United Kingdom. This latest expansion more than doubles the operations
manufacturing and service capability and includes expanded local technical and engineering
resources.
AT&T Canada has announced plans to open a new
call center in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area that will create 1,000 full- and part-time
jobs over the next two years.
The Birmingham Midshires Building Society has
signed a deal with Innovative Systems, Inc. to produce an advanced customer database. The
deal will enable Birmingham to build advanced customer profiles by gathering together
customer details shared by many systems within the organization.
Boston Technology, Inc. has announced its
Brazilian joint venture, Computel & Boston Technology, S.A., has been awarded a
contract in excess of $10 million by Telecom-municacoes de Rio De Janeiro S.A. for the
deployment of voice messaging services for their wireless subscribers in Rio De Janeiro,
Brazil.
Ericsson has signed a contract for a GSM system
within a turnkey project with Scancom in Ghana for the expansion of their GSM network.
This contract enables Scancom to expand in both capacity and coverage as well as add data,
fax, voice mail and short message services.
Kieran McGowan, chief executive of Industrial
Development Agency of Ireland, has announced that 1997 is another record year for U.S.
investment in Ireland. There are now more than 1,000 overseas companies operating in
Ireland - some 400 of these are from the United States.
InterVoice, Inc. has announced that its Venezuelan
distributor has received a $4.1 million order from one of that countries
telecommunications companies. The 24 InterVoice OneVoice � 5000 systems are in addition
to the 19 previously purchased and will be used to expand existing sites to meet growing
cellular subscriber call capacity.
Logica has announced the acquisition of Aldiscon
Ltd., an advanced network systems and services supplier to the global telecom industry.
Rockwell Switching Systems Division has announced
that its South African distributor, Dimension Data, will provide South Africas
national telephone company, Telkom, with call center technology based on Rockwells
Spectrum Integrated Call Center System.
SITEL Corporation has acquired Svanberg & Co.
Intressenter AB, one of the largest telemarketing ser-vice providers in Sweden.
Telstra has announced the successful conclusion of
Internet Peering agreements with a number of Asian countries including
Singapore, Japan, Korea and Hong Kong as part of the development of an Asia Pacific
Internet backbone. Telstra has also announced the launch of Accelerate ATM
(asynchronous transfer mode), Australias first commercial ATM service. It is
available to customers in all capital cities and most regional centers.
Telstra, IBM and Lend Lease Corporation have
signed an agreement that will create a new network services company called Advantra
that marries desktop applications, phone, fax, computers and video with the
telecommunications network to help customers better manage their communications needs. In
addition, IBM Global Services Australia will take responsibility for Telstras data
center operations and provide certain appli-cations maintenance and enhancement services.
Watts Communications has announced it plans to
construct a new call center in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. The 20,000-square-foot
center will employ 240 when operating at full capacity, within three years time.

SITEL Corporation, a teleservices agency, has
