Hughes Software Systems Partners With Brooktrout
Technology
Hughes Software Systems (HSS),
specialists in convergent network software, announced that it is
collaborating with Brooktrout
Technology, Inc., a provider of innovative communications hardware and
software platforms, to simplify the development of wireless network
solutions utilizing the latest 2.5G technology. Under the relationship,
HSS' Gb protocol stack is being implemented on Brooktrout Technology's
Netaccess Series network interface boards to provide OEM developers with a
proven solution for packet data backhaul functions.
The collaboration combines Brooktrout Technology's Netaccess Series
network interface boards with HSS' Gb protocol stack, providing OEM
developers with a proven solution for backhaul functions that carry packet
data between the Base Station Controller and the GPRS Gateway. HSS will
provide the interface stack for both the base station system (BSS) and
serving GPRS support node (SGSN) side of the Brooktrout boards. The HSS
software also provides the ciphering algorithm, general packet radio
service (GPRS) and GPRS2 for the Gb stack with the NS layer integrated
with Brooktrout frame relay drivers. As a result of this collaboration,
original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) building 2.5G/GPRS wireless
infrastructure elements will be able to reduce development cost and
quicken time to market.
"The HSS / Brooktrout alliance provides a smooth evolutionary path
for OEM's building next generation wireless networks, mitigating risks and
providing faster network rollouts" according to Manoranjan Mohapatra,
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Hughes Software
Systems (HSS). "By partnering with Brooktrout, we have extended our
emphasis on providing our customers with integrated solutions to reduce
their development time."
"Our partnership provides developers with a solution for a
critical piece of the wireless data infrastructure that enables a faster
time to market and reduces the cost of building critical elements of the
GPRS network" said Andrew O'Brien, Vice President and General
Manager, New Public Networks Group at Brooktrout Technology. "This
announcement is only the first step of a business and technology
relationship with Hughes Software in the wireless data space".
