Web Cams Go Biometric

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

As the use of Web cams become more prevalent today, many computers are beginning to be equipped with built in cameras that make it more convenient for users to communicate with others via video.

Web cams play an important role not only in personal and business communications, but also as a way of identifying the person with whom one is communicating.

To further extend the functionality of these built in cameras, XID Technologies, a Redwood City, California and Singapore-based company providing of facial recognition technology, has turned the cameras into tools for access control using biometric technology.

Today's increased computer usage has made security a more important issue. Biometrics offer the security needed, because they identify unique physical characteristics from users to accurately identify them.

By loading a Web camera with XID Technologies  Face LogOn Xpress software, users can be visually recognized when logging on by simply looking into the camera.

The solution is targeted at both home and office PC users looking to not only make access to their devices more secure, but also to make logging on easier and faster.

The biometric PC access application protects PCs no matter where they're being used. This is especially important with the number of mobile workers and laptops being used.

The face recognition technology learns a users face each time they log in and is able to function accurately even in outdoor, uncontrolled and real world environments.

Face LogOn Xpress is available in English and Chinese, with versions in French, German, Japanese and Spanish to be available soon.  For more, CLICK HERE
