AuthenTec Reveals TouchStone Technology for Waterproof Biometrics

By Jai C.S., TMCnet Contributing Editor

AuthenTec (News - Alert) claims to be the first biometric products provider to introduce fingerprint authentication in waterproof cell phones. This capability is possible thanks to the company’s TouchStone Packaging technology.

More than 30 million sensors from AuthenTec have been sold worldwide. The company’s fingerprint sensors are designed to work with more than 95 percent of all commercially available biometric cell phones.

Damage of mobile phones due to exposure to excess moisture or immersion in water or other liquids is a major concern in the industry, and a concern which AuthenTec has  with its TouchStone technology.

By combining all the features of AuthenTec’s patented TruePrint technology, AuthenTec’s TouchStone package enables for easy integration into various waterproof industrial design configurations that provides the durability and water resistance required for this new class of handsets while adding touch features including security, convenience, personalization and navigation.

These sensors protect access to the devices, to control screen navigation and to conduct mobile commerce transactions.

“AuthenTec once again leads the way with innovative fingerprint sensor technology for a new generation of waterproof handsets that leverage the waterproof properties of our new TouchStone packaging, as well as the many features of our Power of Touch offerings,” said Art Stewart, AuthenTec vice president of the wireless products division at AuthenTec.

Stewart added, “Our ultra-durable TouchStone technology will help our customers further differentiate their product offerings by combining our award-winning TruePrint fingerprint sensor technology with robust waterproof packaging to create a new segment of secure waterproof cell phones.”
