MegaMatcher Accelerator 3.0 is a new packaged multi-biometric software and hardware solution for high-volume, high-speed fingerprint and iris identification announced by Neurotechnology.

This latest version of MegaMatcher Accelerator features faster iris matching capabilities of up to 200 million irises per second. Additionally it offers increased fingerprint matching speeds of up to 100 million fingerprints per second.

Either iris or fingerprint modes can be used as primary, fast-identification biometrics, or both can be used together for even more accurate multi-biometric identification, company officials said. This multi-biometric software can also check identification results with other biometric data from any Neurotechnology-supported modality, including fingerprint, iris, face or palmprint.

With these features, MegaMatcher Accelerator provides high level of reliability required for applications such as voter duplication detection, passport issuance, border crossings or other national-scale projects, according to company officials.

Over the past few years, several leading nations have engaged in very large, national-scale biometric projects that require identification or de-duplication of records for tens or hundreds of millions of people.

Algimantas Malickas, CEO of Neurotechnology, said such projects may require not only a single biometric modality, but multi-biometric identification to ensure more reliability. MegaMatcher Accelerator is specially designed for such large-scale applications, Malickas added.

“Adding fast iris identification and increasing both speed and managed volume allows us to increase the reliability of such systems while decreasing both complexity and pricing,” according to Malickas.

Unlike other biometric stems that use classification or indexing schemes for matching, MegaMatcher Accelerator's matching technology compares every fingerprint and every iris to provide more accurate results, thus improving the speed and reliability.

While the previous version of MegaMatcher Accelerator could manage a database of up to 20 million fingerprints, the new product enables the management of an additional 10 million databases.

Additionally MegaMatcher now offers speeds that are 2.5 times faster than the 1:N (1-to-many) matching speed of the previous version, making it the fastest, high-volume fingerprint matching engine available, company officials said.

When iris is used, MegaMatcher Accelerator 3.0 can manage a database of up to 50 million irises. In case larger number of fingerprints or irises is required, multiple MegaMatcher Accelerators can be connected in a cluster to manage databases with billions of records.

In August last year, the company released new versions of the company's core product Software Development Kits or “SDKs”- VeriFinger 6.1 for fingerprint ID, VeriLook 3.3 for face ID, VeriEye 2.1 for iris ID, and MegaMatcher 3.0 for multi-biometric identification.
