Enhancing their entry into the small and medium office market,
Ariel Corporation has introduced the RSA400 single-slot PCI-based remote access solution.
This multi-function modem pool provides PC Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and
white box manufacturers with an easy solution for adding as many as eight ports of
V.90-compatible 56-kbps dial-up access to PC servers. The RSA400 enables businesses to add
Internet and remote access, online services, and shared fax services to their networks for
convenient remote networking solutions. It comes with drivers that allow out-of-box
installation under Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server and Windows NT Server, as
well as a Driver Development Kit (DDK) for installation under other operating systems. The
scalable RSA400 is a plug-and-play card available with four or eight 56K modem ports. Its
flexibility allows businesses to install additional RSA400 cards as demand for remote
access increases. The card supports modem and fax sharing, allowing multiple users to
access inbound and outbound data communications. It also allows multilink channel
aggregation, which combines multiple 56K channels to form a single high-speed channel. A
combination of eight channels would allow Internet access at rates of up to 448K.
Simple hardware setup of the RSA400 involves plugging the card into an empty PCI slot
and connecting it to a regular telephone line. A software installation wizard
automatically detects and configures the card. The product can be administered through a
local network or remotely via modem, and uses the Routing and Remote Access Services (RAS)
built into the server running it, including multiprotocol routing, domains, directories,
and multilink PPP channel aggregation. The card also makes use of Windows authentication
and security measures like PAP/CHAP and callback as well as third-party authentication
systems.
The RSA400 is available immediately for OEM customers. Pricing starts at $1,195 for the
four-port card and $1,995 for the eight-port modem pool.
