The W.W. Office software platform from CTI offers a two-tiered solution to messaging and Internet telephony. The product acts as a middleware layer for any Internet telephony switch, router, or gateway, offering standards-based connectivity for telephone, fax, e-mail, and pager messages using a company’s existing network infrastructure. The unified communications offerings of W.W. Office allow users to send, retrieve, and store messages through a telephone, e-mail client, or Java based terminal.

Based on Windows NT Server, the software features a Java client/server for Web-based access, proprietary streaming voice technology based on dynamic compression, text-to-speech capabilities from Lernout & Hauspie, and other features like voice mail, auto attendant, and integrated voice response (IVR). Users can access their messages via PC through a Microsoft Exchange or Outlook client, as well as any SMTP, POP3, or IMAP4 client. A Java-enabled Web browser is also an option.

Several applications may be added to W.W. Office to provide additional functionality, including an Internet telephony capability for PC-to-PC and PC-to-phone calling. Another feature is a virtual assistant that enables users to set up rules for organizing incoming messages, and dictate how they want their messages delivered and routed. A smart agent provides information services, which are integrated with Internet databases through a Java client. Conversion engines provide the ability to send and receive multimedia content, as well as send voice and fax messages as e-mail attachments, and convert documents into faxes. Hewlett-Packard’s Telegra D and M lines of test and analysis systems are geared toward fax and voice networks for Internet telephony. The Telegra D, a notebook-sized system, is targeted toward mobile applications, and can be used to test IP fax machines and servers, VoIP gateways, and traditional, as well as IP fax networks. Offered as a single or dual-port solution, the Telegra D can monitor, analyze, and record calls between two fax systems, and can act as a sending or receiving device with certain performance characteristics. Units with two ports may be programmed for end-to-end network quality and connectivity testing.

The unit may also be carried to a field site or customer site for remote testing through a modem or LAN connection via 10Base-T. The Telegra D generates and analyzes traffic to test compliance of V.34, V.17, V.33, V.29, V.27, and V.21 modulation. It will also test for T.30 and V.8 handshaking, as well as T.4 and T.6 image encoding. Other features include origination, reception, and passive monitoring of fax calls, editing tools for creating custom scripts to administer special tests, and a statistical analysis of calls for a quick review of the overall result. The product also features a graphical display of message sequences and timing, and allows for review of message details.

The Telegra M analysis system may be configured for 48, 96, or 144 ports of fax connectivity through analog and T1/E1 interfaces. The unit is rackmountable, and may be controlled remotely by multiple client PCs through a LAN, WAN, Internet, or modem connection. The Telegra M is capable of originating, receiving, or passively monitoring fax calls on all ports simultaneously, and features test script libraries and network test suites for regression and load testing, as well as test automation. It also features a statistical analysis of all calls, as well as rapid identification of errors and standards, and explanation of errors with suggestions for improvement. The product displays captured or transmitted fax images with compression codes, and also displays fax device capabilities and call configurations in a table format.
