Polycom Unveils ViaVideo
Polycom has introduced ViaVideo, a desktop video communications
appliance that integrated a multimedia processor and camera for two-way
video, voice, and data transmission in a single device. ViaVideo's
full-screen, full-motion images transmit at 30 frames per second, and an
integrated microphone features Polycom's full-duplex Acoustic Clarity
Technology (ACT) for clear voice quality with echo cancellation. At an MSRP

Unisphere Ships New Service Mediation Switch

Ubiquity Software Announces New Services For Converged
Networks
Helmsman now supports three new services to enhance e-commerce over
next-gen networks: Call Profiler, Dial off the Page, and Web-Push. Ubiquity

Motorola Installs 250,000 Voice Packets Worldwide
Motorola's Multiservice Networks Division (MND) announced that it
has reached 250,000 voice ports installed worldwide. "Hitting this
target shows that service providers, as well as end-user organizations, have
sized up the potential for converged networks carrying voice as well as data
and are starting to adopt it in significant numbers," said Neil
Fairbrother, global marketing manager for Motorola's Vanguard Voice.

NEC America And Mockingbird Join Forces
NEC America and Mockingbird Networks have announced they are teaming

Lucent Technologies announced the availability of its version 6.0
ORiNOCO software that provides HP-OpenView network management and
configuration tools, and adds RADIUS-based media access control
authentication for the ORiNOCO high-speed wireless networking system.
ORiNOCO is Wi-Fi compliant and provides secure, high-speed (11Mb/sec)
wireless networking and secure Internet Access to the home, small offices,
enterprises, and public hot spots such as airports, hotels, and business

TI Delivers Power-Efficient DSP Core
Texas Instruments unveiled the first device in its next generation of
power-efficient programmable DSPs. The new TMS320C5510 DSP device delivers
half the power per million instructions per seconds (MIPS) of many DSPs
currently shipping The C55x DSP generation will deliver as low as one-sixth
the power and up to five times the performance of current offerings. The
C5510 DSP initially will be available at a clock rate of 160 MHz or 320 MIPS,
with device power consumption of 80 mw.

Jfax has changed its name to J2 Communications, as a result of expanded
services. In addition to sending and receiving faxes, new services include
conference calling and voice messaging. Users can initiate conference calls

Ericsson Broadens Packet Backbone Network
Ericsson announced the addition of two IP core routers to its recently
introduced Packet Backbone Network (PBN). THe AXI 580 IP Core Router is a
large-scale platform supporting line interfaces up to OC-192c/STM-64, and
the AXI 520-4 IP Core Router is a smaller, 4-slot version of Ericsson's
existing 8-slot AXI 520 IP Core Router, which supports line interfaces up to
OC-48/STM-16.
