AT&T and Avaya have introduced a new version of AT&T Mobile Extension that combines Avaya’s (News - Alert) unified communications (UC) technologies with AT&T’s qualified voice services and compatible wireless devices in a packaged solution.

This latest enhancement to AT&T (News - Alert) Mobile Extension is designed for companies using Avaya Communication Manager IP Telephony on the premises to extend corporate calling features, according to the companies.

Some of the key features of the joint Avaya and AT&T Mobile Extension solution are single number to reach both office or cellular phone; single voice mail covering both wireless and desk phones; designated minutes for AT&T Mobile Extension calls.

Additionally, international calls placed in the U.S. from mobile devices are routed through corporate network, and it also offers common set of features for users while in the office and while mobile.

“AT&T Mobile Extension includes elements of both fixed and wireless communications, which offers corporate end-users a consistent set of features and a seamless communications experience,” said Chris Hill, vice-president for mobility product management at AT&T Business Solutions.

He said the company is taking the next step with fixed mobile convergence by offering virtually anywhere, anytime access to enterprise solutions and applications, and is now offering this solution to Avaya customers.

The package includes Avaya one-X Mobile, a downloadable interface that transforms the wireless device into an extension of the corporate network. Moreover, the package, according to officials, also includes a qualified wireless voice plan, a compatible wireless device and an add-on wireless feature.

The add-on wireless feature offers 500 additional Mobile Extension minutes to be used for fixed mobile convergence calling between the Avaya system and the enabled wireless device, said AT&T officials.

“Avaya one-X Mobile provides employees with secure access to business calls and calling features,” said David Stearns, general manager for AT&T account at Avaya.

Stearns said that when combined with AT&T’s wireless voice services and some of the popular mobile business devices on the market, AT&T Mobile Extension makes “tremendous” business sense.

AT&T Mobile Extension currently supports mobile device platforms such as iPhone, BlackBerry (News - Alert) and Windows Mobile.
