Assurant Solutions Mobile Services Releases Multinational Consumer Survey on Protection and the Prepaid Market

Assurant Solutions, a global specialty insurance company specializing in mobile device protection, today announces the results of its latest consumer survey on mobile trends that shows strong connection between consumer willingness to upgrade to more feature-rich mobile options and the offer of device protection.

"The highly competitive prepaid mobile market is a key area of focus for many operators today," said Martin Jenns, senior vice president and head of strategy development for Assurant Solutions Mobile Services. "In addition to obtaining new subscribers, operators are looking for ways to optimize the lifetime value of the subscribers they already have by introducing more feature-rich devices and data plans."

Assurant Solutions conducted an omnibus study of 4,200 monthly prepaid and pay-as-you-go mobile phone users in eight countries including Argentina, Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States. Responses revealed that all types of prepaid consumers value protection for their mobile devices and that the offer of protection would influence their decision to pgrade.

"When it comes to maximizing revenue, protection matters. Feature phone and smartphone users, on either monthly prepaid or pay-as-you-go plans, all revealed a significant willingness to upgrade to a higher end device based on an offer of protection. Additionally, research indicates that the move to a more sophisticated device will result in higher usage of data and value-added services," said Jenns. "Going forward, adding device and data protection to your offering will play a key part in unlocking the potential of every subscriber in your network."
