MIIT Approves Setting up Cross-Strait Communication Access

Feb 18, 2013 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- The MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) has given approval of setting up communication service accesses in Fuzhou and Xiamen to facilitate communication between mainland and Taiwan.

The communication service access in Xiamen will be constructed by China Telecom Corporation Limited (SEHK: 0728 and NYSE:CHA) and that in Fuzhou will be set up by China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd. (NYSE: CHU, SEHK: 0762, and SHSE: 600050) to support the construction of the economic zone on the west side of the Straits and the economic and social development of Fujian province.

The two accesses will be used to dredge voice service and dedicated data line business in the economic zone on the west side of the Straits and Taiwan.

The establishment of the accesses will push Fujian province to become a communication hub connecting Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao with countries and regions like Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, etc, and will improve the communication ability and quality of voice and data business leading the economic zone on the west side of the Straits to Taiwan to provide more speedy and efficient information and communication service for both Taiwan and mainland.
