Verizon's major wireline infrastructure programmes in 2012 in the region included continued deployment of its 100% fibre-optic FiOS TV and FiOS Internet services. At the end of 2012, FiOS services were reportedly available to over 1.3 million homes and businesses in Maryland and the District.

Also, the company introduces FiOS Quantum Internet for consumers and small businesses, featuring download/upload speeds of 50/25, 75/35, 150/65 and 300/65 megabits per second (Mbps).

Verizon's continued FiOS innovation during 2012 included FiOS TV anytime, anywhere, on a variety of devices; TV beyond the set-top box, featuring 75 live, linear channels delivered via Xbox, iPad and an array of Samsung and LG smart TVs and Blu-ray players; content enhancement with the addition of 28 new channels: over 17,000 video-on-demand titles, including free VOD from NBA TV and a significant expansion to its free on-demand offerings from TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and Showtime.

In addition, Verizon continued the deployment of fibre-optic links to wireless providers' cell sites throughout Maryland and the District as these carriers expanded their infrastructure to meet ever-growing demand for wireless broadband and advanced 4G services. In 2012, Verizon has reportedly deployed fibre optics to connect 241 of these sites in these areas.
