Jeff Kagan Industry Analyst Comments on AT&T Considering Mergers Overseas

Atlanta, GA, Jan 17, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- According to the Chicago Tribune this morning, AT&T is considering mergers in Europe.

The following are comments by Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan.

"AT&T has seen incredible transformation and growth over the last decade. Then its move to acquire T-Mobile a couple years ago was shot down by regulators. That means for the company to see growth through acquisitions, AT&T may look overseas." "This happens all the time. Just look at Softbank trying to acquire Sprint Nextel as one recent example. In fact if Softbank is successful with their Sprint Nextel deal, then AT&T would be the only all-American wireless carrier of the top four. That's right, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile are all or partly owned by foreign companies." "So the precedent is set. With that said, I would not be surprised to see AT&T looking overseas for a merger. The US market is the most advanced wireless market in the world. We have more 4G than other countries. That means there is big opportunity to do the same thing overseas and that is what AT&T sees." "The US market has moved and now focuses on 4G rather than voice and text. Overseas they are still focused on voice and text. That means there is a big opportunity for companies to usher in that transformation over there. The future is all about smart phones and wireless data services and spectrum. That's where the real innovation and growth will come from. As an example just look at the Apple iPhone and Google Android as an example."
