Healthcare Law and Lobbying Firm McClelland Advocacy Marks New Year with Los Angeles Expansion

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

A new year is supposed to be about new goals, fresh starts and great ambition. This is exactly how local law firm, McClelland Advocacy, Ltd. is kicking off 2013. The Sacramento-based law and lobbying firm announced this week that it will be opening a new office in Los Angeles. The firm's Los Angeles area office is opening this month and will be located in Century City. The new office space represents the firm's first Southern California expansion.

McClelland Advocacy is a specialty law and lobbying firm providing litigation, government relations and public affairs services to healthcare clients in California. The firm currently represents clients including medical groups, health plans, insurers and physicians.

"We are coming out of a banner inaugural year for the firm," said Michael McClelland, president of McClelland Advocacy, Ltd. "In 2012, our litigation clients did not pay a single dollar in judgments. The firm obtained significant litigation successes. We were everywhere this year. From constitutional law cases in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, to multi-million dollar reimbursement litigation between payers and providers, the firm gave no quarter and our clients achieved bottom-line results."

"Our government relations practice also thrived," said McClelland. "The firm successfully secured the dismissal or withdrawal of several administrative agency actions across multiple agencies and was ative in the legislature, helping shape the future of healthcare policy in California. Our mission is to assist clients in keeping the government restricted to its proper role," McClelland said. "This year saw the successful rescission of agency underground regulations after our involvement, not to mention the conclusion of several agency investigations without changes to our clients."

When asked why the firm chose Los Angeles for its first expansion, McClelland responded, "The choice was easy. The Los Angeles region boasts some of the most innovative and successful healthcare companies in the world. From world class hospitals to health plans, to the state's largest medical groups, Los Angeles is the leader in the healthcare industry. In particular, the explosion in our direct primary care, concierge medicine, Accountable care organization and medical group practices, called for an expansion in our reach."

While all litigation is, of course, local, McClelland Advocacy's government relations and public affairs practices have greatly expanded to address local government relations.

"How many law firms are targeting ACA implementation efforts at the local level " McClelland asked. "Our goal is to be every bit as innovative as our clients. When the leaders in healthcare chose their counsel, they chose McClelland Advocacy for one reason. We are blowing up the sclerotic model of the traditional regulated industries practice."

The firm believes their success in working with and retaining long time valuable clients is a direct result of skillful use of the courts, public opinion, lobbying and an unmatched managed care policy expertise.

"When MedLion began its expansion, which would lead to its becoming the fastest growing direct primary care practice in the nation, we chose McClelland Advocacy," said Dr. Sam Qamar, the CEO of MedLion. "McClelland Advocacy helped guide a multi-state explosion in our business. Not only did they provide a hybrid billing arrangement tailored to meet our needs, McClelland Advocacy managed our risk and regulatory affairs programs with effective efficiency."

"Most importantly," Qamar added, "they are there when we need them and they always find a way to achieve our goals."

McClelland is a former chief prosecutor for the California Department of Managed Health Care and a recognized expert in managed care law. McClelland says the new Los Angeles office is a symbol of hard work and dedication, work that will continue to flourish as the firm anticipates the opening of satellite offices in Nevada and Texas later in 2013.

"As the healthcare sector grows, and becomes even more regulated, the need for sophisticated representation increases," McClelland said. "Healthcare companies in California succeed only when they can nimbly navigate across multiple forums from courts to the Capitol to the front pages. McClelland Advocacy is about providing that kind of specialization."

"We make winning arguments," McClelland added, "Everywhere."
