Daily Grommet, a highly curated online marketplace and launch platform for innovative and undiscovered products has partnered with two Kenmore, WA and Hong Kong based entrepreneurs to coordinate a launch for the connected watch at the Consumer Electronics Show on January 8, 2013. Prior to their launch for COOKOO on Daily Grommet, COOKOO Watch co-founders Henri-Nicolas Olivier and Peter Hauser raised over $300,000 on Kickstarter, more than double their original asking price.
The COOKOO Watch connects to a Bluetooth 4.0 (Smart Ready) iOS5 and iOS6 device (iPhone 4S, iPhone5, or new 3rd or 4th generation iPad) and allows users to easily and discretely view mobile alerts and notifications, without even glancing at the phone. The idea was conceived by CTO Peter Hauser, who as a child, was fascinated by his grandmother’s German cuckoo clocks. The modern COOKOO watch can send alerts for calls, reminders, and Facebook activity as well as let the user customize what types of events and notifications they wish to be alerted to. Other features include a wireless camera-trigger, the ability to tell the user when their smartphone is out of range, and alerts when it’s time to charge the battery.
Daily Grommet views this coordination as an opportunity to pick up where Kickstarter left off and tell the product’s story as well as help it to scale. They have launched several post-Kickstarter products including SushiQuik and Holdster, both launched in December, 2012. “A product project on Kickstarter has a long way to go to succeed beyond funding the initial production run.
