MobiTV Unveils LTE Broadcast Demo at 2013 International CES

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2012, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- MobiTV, a global leader in enabling delivery of live and on-demand TV everywhere, will reveal demonstrations of its video streaming application utilizing LTE Broadcast technology enabled by Qualcomm Labs, Inc.'s LTE Broadcast Software Development Kit and Middleware at 2013 International CES (Jan. 8 - 11 January). Qualcomm Labs is a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. The first video streaming solution to allow mobile network operators (MNOs) to offer both unicast and multicast broadcast capabilities, LTE Broadcast technology allows MNOs to localize when and where content is aired by offering broadcast services that can be turned on and off based on demand. LTE Broadcast technology optimizes network content delivery, making it more efficient than traditional broadcast networks while maintaining a seamless user experience. During the show, attendees will experience a preview of how these new capabilities will shape the future of mobile video streaming.

The MobiTV LTE Broadcast demonstrations will take place in the South Hall of the LVCC in the Qualcomm booth (#30313). Each demonstration will air an interactive mosaic of content from four different channels, highlighting LTE Broadcast's ability to meet the need to watch multiple concurrent events or camera angles for a given event. The demonstrations will also showcase the delivery of correlated data files that complement the broadcast content by offering information relevant to each channel in surrounding data boxes.

"In order to keep pace with the content demands imposed by today's connected device paradigm, you need a highly efficient, scalable, one-to-many broadcast solution," said Charlie Nooney, chairman and CEO at MobiTV. "By leveraging Qualcomm Labs' LTE Broadcast Middleware and SDK, MobiTV's LTE Broadcast application, will transform the way networks can deliver live TV to mobile devices by marrying unicast and multicast capabilities to create a dynamic and personalized content experience optimized for high concurrency events." The high volume of mobile usage at CES makes it the ideal setting to demonstrate MobiTV LTE Broadcast capabilities by simulating network needs during major events or in highly trafficked areas. The show also provides a backdrop for getting a first-hand look at the way the mobility of users and devices have created a technology landscape driven by a need for constant interconnectivity.

"Qualcomm Labs' LTE Broadcast Middleware and SDK enables companies, like MobiTV, to develop applications that efficiently and seamlessly deliver network content, which is critical in today's mobile society where consumers demand content anytime, anywhere," said Mazen Chmaytelli, senior director of business development for Qualcomm Labs. "Qualcomm Labs is proud to be working with MobiTV to bring this advanced solution to market and looks forward to further expanding the LTE broadcast ecosystem to provide services for the connected world."
