Municipalities Take Advantage Of ROAMWORKS Fleet And Driver Management Solutions

ATLANTA, Dec. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- As cities and towns across the U.S. struggle with depleting revenues and rising costs, tough decisions have to be made about prioritizing municipal services. But the Pennsylvania municipality of Plum Borough has taken a more progressive step, enhancing services by fine-tuning efficiencies in the police and public works fleets with vehicle and fleet management solutions from ROAMWORKS USA.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20120723/CL44954LOGO ) The Pittsburgh suburb has engaged ROAMWORKS to implement a fleet management system that will track the location and status of police cars and public works vehicles to drive more efficient fleet utilization. For example, the ROAMWORKS application will enable Plum Borough Police supervisors to determine which patrolling officers to send on a call, based on their proximity to the incident, current status (i.e., engaged in stationary traffic enforcement, out of service at district court, etc.) and other details. Locational data will also help pinpoint when incidents occurred by time stamping police surveillance rounds.

To better manage fuel expenses, the police department will now be able to monitor vehicle movements such as idling and stopping. Excessive idling increases fuel consumption, so the department can better analyze and train units on when it's appropriate to idle versus turn off the vehicle to save on fuel costs.

"Our transition to the ROAMWORKS fleet management system went incredibly smooth due to the excellent level of customer service they provided," states Lieutenant Jeff Armstrong, Plum Borough Police Department. "Our representative worked with us to customize the system to meet our needs, ensuring that it provided the type of information that was important to us. The ROAMWORKS system now helps us get the most out of our resources through accountability, documentation, and resource management." For the Public Works Department, fleet applications are helping them get a handle on the workflow of all repairs and maintenance -- for instance, snow plowing. Plow tilt sensors and tracking devices will give dispatchers an instant view of progress, by road. This not only helps optimize the fleet, but also helps provide callers up-to-the-minute information about when their streets will be cleared.

The baseline functionality offered by ROAM, developed through ROAMWORKS' extensive expertise in M2M connectivity, gives smaller organizations feature-rich capabilities such as GPS tracking, route planning, maintenance and safety reports without breaking the bank. As client' needs grow, ROAMWORKS can quickly enhance and scale their applications to adapt to new requirements. ROAM works with any type of fleet hardware and communications network including cellular or satellite connectivity and can be designed to integrate with any type of legacy enterprise system for dispatch, HR, and accounting.
