Industry Leader Sheena Hervey Joins Combined Organization Formed by Editure and JBHM as Chief Academic Officer

NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--

Editure Professional Development, an organization focused on helping build strong K-12 schools by providing consulting services in the most critical areas including Common Core State Standards instruction, utilization of technology in the classroom, whole school improvement, and teacher effectiveness, announced today that it has hired Sheena Hervey as Chief Academic Officer.

Editure PD was combined with JBHM Education Group in September following the acquisition of both companies by Weld North. Weld North Holdings LLC is an investment company founded by former Kaplan, Inc. CEO Jonathan Grayer in partnership with Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.

With more than 25 years of experience in the education industry, Hervey will be the standard-bearer for the academic quality of work throughout the Editure/JBHM organization and a key external thought leader on the instructional shifts surrounding Common Core, measurement of teacher effectiveness, and the unique services provided by Editure PD and JBHM. She will report to CEO Justin Serrano.

"I am extremely excited to have Sheena as part of our team," said Justin Serrano, chief executive officer. "Sheena brings a wealth of industry experience and an invaluable perspective on the challenges and opportunities currently facing the education industry. She is a passionate educator with an impressive background, particularly with respect to the implementation of Common Core literacy standards, and understands the challenges facing educators and leaders alike."

"A key ingredient for the success of the combined entity will be our ability to stay current with - and indeed drive - the educational conversation on student achievement and teacher effectiveness in our ever-changing industry. Sheena is the ideal leader to help us to accomplish this goal," Serrano continued.

"In learning about this opportunity, I have been consistently impressed with the vision for this combined company and its commitment to helping school succeed in raising student standards and achievement," said Sheena Hervey, chief academic officer. "As new standards are implemented, we are asking teachers and students to work and learn in a way that is very new to them. Throughout this exciting and challenging time, our company will be well-positioned to help make that change a bit easier and I look forward to being part of an organization that will make a measurable impact in schools across the country."

Hervey brings a deep expertise in the field of reading and literacy. Prior to joining Editure, Hervey was a consultant at AUSSIE (acquired by Editure PD in 2009) where she provided research-based professional development for teachers and workshops for principals. She was also integral to acquiring and delivering Editure's Common Core State Standards work with New York City. Hervey is currently working as the senior Literacy Adviser for the New York Department of Education's Middle School Quality Initiative. Prior to joining AUSSIE, Hervey served as Director of Primary programs at Dunedin College of Education. Hervey is also a highly sought-after speaker and publisher of such works as "Tools for Examining Text Complexity" with Karen Hess of the National Center for the Improvement of Educational Assessment (NCIEA, 2010) "To Test Or Not To Test," (1998) "Dancing with the Pen" (1992), "The Reader as Learner" (1996), "Exploring Language" (1996) as well as international conference papers such as "Who said New Zealand Teachers Don't Teach Phonics " which was presented at the 2000 International Reading Association World Congress in Auckland, NZ.
