Docomo to set up Singapore unit to sell mobile phones for Japanese


(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TOKYO, Nov. 30 -- (Kyodo) _ NTT Docomo Inc. said Thursday it will establish a subsidiary in Singapore to sell from Jan. 1 mobile phone, cable TV and broadband telecommunications services for Japanese residents and businesses in the island city.



Docomo Singapore Pte. Ltd. will be serving as an agent for telecommunications services provided by StarHub, one of the major carriers in the country, the Japanese company said.

The new Singapore unit will sell smartphones and other mobile phones, cable TV services with over 180 channels and broadband high-speed Internet connection of up to 1 Gbps to residents, while providing consulting on telecom charges to Japanese businesses and their employees, NTT Docomo said.


Docomo's existing local office will be closed after its operations are passed on to Docomo Singapore on Saturday, according to NTT Docomo.
