BRIEF: Satellite broadcaster YES to continue airing CNN

Nov 27, 2012 (Globes - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Satellite broadcaster DBS Satellite Services (1998) Ltd. (YES) will not take CNN off the air at the end of the year, belying previous statements that it would do so. Sources inform "Globes" that YES and CNN have reached understandings, after resuming negotiations several weeks ago. It cannot be ruled out that CNN will be part of the narrow base package that YES will offer next year, to comply with the regulatory condition of including an international news channel.

YES is Israel's only television platform to air CNN, since cable television provider HOT Telecommunication Systems Ltd. (TASE: HOT) stopped airing it earlier this year after failing to reach a deal on prices in a new contract.

CNN has been suffering from falling ratings worldwide. It was one of the channels to air on Israeli multichannel television, which gave CNN a strong audience, but made it expensive for the broadcasters. More English-speaking international news stations are now available in Israel, including BBC, Sky News, CNBC, Fox News, Bloomberg News, France 24, Al Jezeera, and Russian and Chinese stations.

YES confirmed the report, but CNN was unavailable for comment.
