Comtech EF Data Previews New High-Speed Trunking Modem at AfricaCom 2012 Show

TEMPE, Ariz. --(Business Wire)--

Comtech EF Data (News - Alert) Corporation announced today that it will preview the new CDM-760 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modem at the AfricaCom 2012 show in Cape Town, South Africa next week. The CDM-760 builds on Comtech EF Data's award-winning family of high-speed trunking modems, and was designed to be the most efficient and highest throughput point-to-point trunking modem. It provides ultra wide band symbol rates, near theoretical performance with minimal implementation loss, the DVB-S2 Efficiency Boost technology, Super Jumbo Frame Ethernet support and other value-added features.

The CDM-760 Advanced High-Speed Trunking Modem supports symbol rates of 1 ksps to 150 Msps and data rates up to 314 Mbps simplex and 628 Mbps duplex. Demonstrating an industry breakthrough, these astounding data rates can be achieved when using 8PSK, 16APSK or 32APSK modulation. When coupled with the native Super Jumbo Frame Ethernet interface, the CDM-760 can process Ethernet frames at greater than 1.2 million packets per second.

DVB-S2 EN 302 307 is widely accepted as the most spectrally efficient standards-based waveforms. The new CDM-760 features an enhancement to DVB-S2 with its proprietary DVB-S2 Efficiency Boost (DVB-S2-EB1) waveforms. The CDM-760 essentially doubles the number of available MODCODs, introduces three new rolloff figures (5%, 10% and 15%), and minimizes implementation loss to near theoretical operation. The result is a 10-35% increase in spectral efficiency compared to the DVB-S2 standard, without increasing power or occupied bandwidth. The DM-760 is software upgradeable to support future standards including DVB-S2 Efficiency Boost, DVB-S2 Extension and DVB-S3.

The CDM-760 offers additional features that enable OPEX (News - Alert) reduction and the best possible use of satellite link resources, including Adaptive Coding and Modulation operation, premier encapsulation methods, and the powerful DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression that allows transmit and receive carriers of a duplex link to share the same transponder space.

"By using this combination of advanced technologies and innovative architecture to support high-speed trunking, ISPs and telco operators can achieve unparalleled space segment efficiencies and minimize unnecessary overhead for satellite links," commented Daniel Enns, senior vice president marketing and business development.

The CDM-760 will be on display in the Comtech EF Data stand at the AfricaCom show in Cape Town, South Africa, November 13-15, 2012. For more information or to see the new product, visit Comtech EF Data's stand #P58 or www.comtechefdata.com/cdm-760-advanced-high-speed-trunking-modem.
